In addition to providing high quality water to homes and businesses in our city, our system provides water to hydrants while preventing contamination.

Fire hydrants are part of the City's water distribution system which includes pipes, valves, meters, storage tanks, and pumping stations.

Only Authorized City employees and members of the fire department are permitted to operate the fire hydrants.

Unauthorized use of hydrants has the potential of contaminating the water supply by allowing backflow.

Vandalism to hydrants costs all citizens as water can be wasted when the hydrants are opened and can reduce the city's water pressure thus impairing fire fighters' efforts to extinguish fires.

If a citizen sees anyone tampering with or connecting to a fire hydrant, please report the incident to the Department of Public Works at 410-939-1800 x-1130, or the Havre de Grace Police at 410-939-2121.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping to protect our valuable water resources.
